Happy Easter, Y'all!

Hope y'all have had a wonderful Easter weekend. Miss Caroline was pretty excited to get her basket before church and family lunch this morning :) I love this picture. A little secret...the key to this big grin is her Daddy using his turkey call.  Gets her every time!

Fit Friday~ Ripped Arm Workout

Just a little weekend arm workout for you to enjoy! I tried this night before last and am definitely feeling the effects! This workout requires absolutely no equipment, just body weight for resistance.

For the Wide Arm Pushups, you simply assume a regular pushup position, but instead of placing your hands under your shoulders like you usually would, you place them wider. This really targets the chest, especially the "arm fat" that can come from your bra.
For the shoulder taps, again, assume a traditional pushup position, and you will do these pretty quick, tap your right hand to left shoulder, then left arm to right shoulder and repeat until finished.
Down Dog pushups are exactly what they sound like. You get in down dog position, then drive your head towards the floor slowly and return to start position. This is great for shoulders and bicep/triceps.
Tricep Dips can be done off of a chair or even just on the ground if you don't have a stable surface to elevate yourself on.
On the extended arm planks, these will work everything on your body and are awesome/totally suck. Not too different from a regular plank, but instead of arms under shoulders like you would for a pushup, you're going to take your arms forward a few inches of that position and hold the plank.
Closed grip pushups are simply regular pushups but your hands are under you in a diamond, really isolating your triceps in the process.

I'm alternating this workout with my leg workout from last week's Fit Friday post. I've also been doing 15 minutes of cardio most days (at least 4 days a week). My diet suuuuuucked last week. I ate cake...lots of cake. I'm the type where if sweets aren't in my house, I don't think twice about wanting them and I really only bake when we are entertaining, but if they're around, they must be eaten. So I'm trying to get back on the eat right wagon. Next week, I'll be posting my favorite ab workout!

Whatever Wednesday

I've decided to start a new weekly (hopefully, if I remember) post filled with essentially useless information, unless you love to read or shop (but who doesn't, really?). I'm doing Whatever Wednesdays as a sort of catch-all for the wide-ranging topics I often take a notion to blog about so it could cover anything from a great book I've read, which I'm constantly looking for new books to read, or old favorites to re-read (is this weird b/c I don't think so, but I've been told it is...) to some other obscure topic that may not warrant it's own post. So here goes...

What I'm Reading:

I adore Mary Kay Andrews. If you have never read her books you are really missing out. Her wit and Southern flair suck me in from page one. She has a new book coming out in June and I am counting down the days. I've read all of her books and it wouldn't be possible for me to pick a favorite. They always have romance interlaced throughout the plot, but you'll never catch the white knight in her reads. The women leads are always very strong and self-sufficient which I love.
I'm also re-reading The Purpose Driven Life. It's one of those books that I take something new from each time I read it over. It's not my favorite book in the "give your life direction and meaning" category, but I like that it's a 40 day read, especially with the Lenten season coming to a close. Seemed like an appropriate time to re-visit it. I also think that you take away different things each time you read a book depending on your life situation. Like I said, I love to re-read books all the time. To me it's like re-watching a favorite show. I've had a few different people tell me that it seemed redundant because the ending would still be the same...good thing I don't really care what people like that think.

What I'm Watching:

Photo: Amazon

Is anyone else out there still in a depression that One Tree Hill is over...forever...never to return with new episodes to peek into the lives of our favorite North Carolina characters? I have a deep, abiding love for this show and always will. I even got my parents hooked on the antics of the Scott brothers and company. Thank God for tv on dvd because my parents bought me all the seasons of this show so that I can re-watch them all over and over...as soon as I finish re-reading my favorite books. I will have to say though, that the show just wasn't the same after Lucas and Peyton departed, but I still watched.
If you have never watched this show, do yourself a favor and order the DVD's ASAP.

What I'm Wanting:

Photos: Bourbon and Boweties via Facebook

If you have not stumbled across Bourbon and Boweties, you need to check it out ASAP. The company isn't very old, not even a year yet I don't think. And all of their ordering is done via Facebook private message, but these bracelet stacks are so pretty and unique. Not to mention that they are made by Southern Hands here in the good ole US of A. Not an easy thing to find anymore. I;m loving the pearl stacks pictured above, but you need to check out their Facebook page for lots of stacking options. I honestly have no clue how much these run because prices aren't listed on FB (usually not a good sign for your wallet), but they are semi-precious stones so would likely be more of an investment piece...like one your hubs should invest in for you!

What's I'm waiting for:

Photo: Posh Pickle

How stinkin cute is my baby going to be waddling around on her little thicky thighs in this bubble from Posh Pickle!!!! I had to have it as soon as I saw it. Only sad part is that I had to pre-order and it won't ship out until April. Oh well, it's been strangely cold around here so she couldn't wear it yet anyway. But I can not wait to see it on her! I ordered a 12 month just to be safe. You can pre-order here. Follow them on Facebook to be alerted to other pre-orders.

Photos: Just Madras

And finally, something I ordered for myself for when spring finally decides to show up to the party, a Just Madras skipper dress. This dress is also available in navy and red, either of which would be perfect for 4th or Memorial Day festivities. How perfect would the pearl Bourbon and Boweties stacks be with this? But then pearls go with everything.

Blessed Baby

Today was such an amazing day for our family! Baby girl was baptized this morning at our church! I honestly couldn't believe how well-behaved she was when the preacher took her. She was just fascinated with him. Baptisms are always so sweet. Our church sings a hymn "Now I Belong to Jesus" while the preacher takes the baby and walks them around the church for everyone to love on and I have never seen a baby cry during this whole process to date. The song makes me cry even when it's not my baby so you could just imagine how weepy I was this morning. I held it together though. Speaking of singing, my sister, who sang at our wedding, also sang The Lord's Prayer as part of the service this morning. Miss Caroline felt like a duet and just kept hollerin' along while my sister sang. Too cute. I was so relieve when she didn't cry during the whole ceremony. She had her mama pretty nervous.

We did manage to get a few good family photos after the service but I haven't loaded any onto my computer yet. What did we do before IPhones for pictures?

My Aunt Judy and Uncle Ronnie, who own Magee's bakery here in town (featured multiple times in Southern Living and loved by George Clooney for their ahhhmazing transparent tarts) gifted us the adorable polka dot monogrammed cake and pink tea waffers. I had no idea until I actually cut into the cake, but they even added a pink layer with the white ones. The pearl dots on the cake match the cake we had in our wedding, also made by my aunt and uncle.

We had lots of family and amazing friends in attendance at the service and then most of them came out to the house afterwards for lunch. It's always humbling to see how many people love a little baby they barely know just because they love her parents. This is one blessed little baby and we are blessed to be her parents and for all of the wonderful people God has put in our lives. It's my hope that we will be able to raise our child with a strong faith in God and value of her family. This was by far one of the best days ever.

I'm adding my recipes for sausage balls, pimento cheese and fruit salad (my mama's) under the recipe tab sometime tomorrow so be sure to check it out if you're a lover of finger foods like I am! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Our weather went wacky again. Saturday, I had the baby and one of our dogs at the park enjoying sunshine, almost 60 degrees and a walk and then tonight they're forecasting a possible inch of snow.  I sure hope this cold snap is over by Easter Sunday. This time last year it had been in the 70's for nearly a month already. I may just have to start going further south for the winters. I'm not a lover of cold weather. But at least it was just rain today and not snow.

Happy Saturday Y'all!

Today has been one of the most gorgeous days around these parts! I'm talking windows open, walking the pup at the park and taking the baby outside to sit in the grass for the first time! Exciting stuff, I know...but it makes me so ready to get started on yard work and clean stuff. I was totally this lame before having a baby.

We were dressed all festive for the holiday weekend, but had to make a wardrobe change.

Daddy may or may not have spilled his beer aaaalllll over me and the baby while we were playing in the grass.  The neighbors dog got loose and came over to play. He's a rowdy little pup and was bouncing around the baby trying to get some love. I had a hold of the dog and was calmly telling Juston to pick up the baby when he seized up in a panic. For some reason, instead of sitting the beer on the ground and picking the baby up, he put the can in his mouth (seriously?), went to pick her up and dumped his Guiness all over us both when he couldn't hold a can in his teeth. Who would have thought? Since I had literally just gotten out of the shower, I guess I'll roll up in Trinity UMC tomorrow smelling like beer since it soaked not only my clothes, but my hair. So not only will we look festive in our green outfits for St. Patty's tomorrow, we'll smell all festive, too. At least I will. I'll let y'all know if there's any truth to that beer as hair conditioner stuff I've heard about.
We're not doing anything special to celebrate besides church and wearing green stuff. I'm going all out this year. I may even go nuts with the theme and give the baby some avocados for lunch. Watch out world, I'm feeling creative.

Hope y'all are enjoying your weekends so far and your weather is as great as ours is!

Fit Friday~ Leg Workout

My main focus over the next couple of weeks with workouts is going to be my legs. Back in my cheer and tumble days, my legs were solid as a rock, or as my Dad likes to say "powerful". That always used to get under my skin because I thought of that as another way to say fat, but obviously, he meant strong. So that's my goal again...gymnast legs. Posting another equipment-free, at-home friendly workout above that pretty much anyone can do. If once through the circuit isn't enough for ya, just add another round or two :)
I'm down two pounds in the last two weeks and have three more to go to get where I wanted to be by Easter. I've only been able to get in 15 minutes workouts most days rolling old school style on a Nordic Trak my parents bought in the mid-nineties, but it gets the job done. If there's a will there's a way, right? I'd say Caroline and breastfeeding is where most of the credit is due. I have cut back on my sweets and cleaned up my diet but I'd reeeeeally love to be able to get more time to get my workouts in. If you try the workout, let me know what you think! Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Seven Months

Age: 7 months
Birthday: August 7, 2012
Weight: 17 pounds 4 ounces
Length: 25 (ish) inches
Sleep: Depends on the night. I try to never change anything about her bedtime routine, and one night she'll sleep 10 hours like a rock, and then the next she's up every three hours. It's very frustrating.
My Bedtime: 8:30 now with the time change
Favorite Toy: Dad's spit cup (gross), an empty vitamin bottle with change inside of it, and strangely enough, Daddy's turkey call. I'm afraid much like my shih tzu pup, my husband is turning my child into a redneck.
Clothes Size:  6 month mostly and I've started putting some of her baby Gap 6-12 month stuff as well, I just roll up the sleeves and legs.
Diaper Size: Size 3 in Pampers Swaddlers, the only diaper worth buying. Luvs are a close second for a cheaper option.
Milestones Reached: Rolling over from back to belly, first road trip (to a cheer competition in Cincy) where she didn't scream bloody murder the whole way, mimicking sounds.
Firsts: Avocado, pears, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash
Best Mood: Still my little morning baby, but her demeanor is gradually improving through the whole day. Caroline is a very temperamental, high-maintenance baby. She's the kind of baby that are the reason there are only children.
Teeth: None yet. We've been convinced from 3 or 4 months that she was teething since she's always drooling or chewing on something, but still no visible signs of any teeth poking through.
Words: Not talking yet, baby babble or otherwise. She mos

Curly Mesh Wreath DIY

I just love making wreaths for our house! My time to do so has been pretty limited the past four seven months or so due to an extremely clingy little chick, but I've been wanting to make a curly deco mesh wreath forever, so I've been working on one section by section and finally finished it up! It's very whimsical and I just love it! Here's how I did it.

What you need:

Wire Wreath form
Deco Mesh
Pipe Cleaner
Scissors

What you do:

Cut 10 inch strips of the deco mesh (you need lots of them)
Roll them tightly in the center and pinch together ( I did sections of 3)
Secure tightly together with pipe cleaner, then secure to the wreath form

I did 4-5 groups of mesh per section of wreath for a total of about  32 bundles give or take depending on how full you want the wreath

the back

Easy as pie and not really all that time consuming. I have a few for sale in my Etsy shop now, just go to Shut the Front Door

Working on burlap, yarn and bookpage wreaths next! Hopefully they won't take three months to finish like this  one did! I found the tutorial for doing mine via Pinterest, which led me to the cutest blog, Miss Kopy Kat. Y'all need to check it out if you love DIY projects.

March Fit Madness

Okay, this mama has been off the workout wagon long enough. Sure, I've piddled and done my share of short circuit workouts and walks around the neighborhood on nice days, but I'm a woman on a mission now. I'm actually ten pounds less now than I was before I got pregnant, but I still have about 8-12 pounds I want to lose to get back to my fighting weight so I've decided that while everyone else in KY is going nuts over March Madness basketball style (or maybe not after our season), I'm designating March as my kickoff for getting back into some serious clean eating and exercise.
I know I can do it, I just haven't wanted to all that badly since baby girl made her arrival, so I reckon making a public decree will hold me accountable. Way back when I competed in two NPC figure shows so I'm going to follow a similar workout plan to what I adhered to then and as far as 'diet', I hate the concept. I love healthy foods, I never eliminate an entire food group and I allow myself to indulge occasionally, otherwise I wouldn't just fall off the wagon, I'd take a flying leap off headed for the Cadbury egg display. I plan on sharing via weekly updates not only my progress, but my workouts and meal plan in the hopes that it can help someone else who's trudging along this journey as well. I be glad to answer any questions anyone has about getting started. I feel like since I started my new stay-at-home-mama job that I've lost touch with my personal training and group exercise base a bit. I chose that career path because I LOVED fitness and LOVED the idea of changing someone's life for the better by helping them look and feel better.
So, my plan for the upcoming week goes as listed below.

Workout:
This workout is set up to allow you to do it straight through, or in 3 sets of 10 minute increments when you can grab the time throughout the day. No equipment required and it will give you both cardio and resistance training in one. I'll be doing this M/W/F/S, as well as Ab Ripper X dvd from P90X series 2X. Any pretty days, I usually walk a few miles as well, but those have been few and far between the last few weeks around here!

Diet:

This diet is loosely based on the one I followed when I was doing contest prep for my Figure shows. I would go nuts with salads and just add as many veggies as I liked. I do use more salad dressing than I probably should, but I figure an extra tablespoon won't make or break it. I also have one breakover day a week, usually Sunday, where I eat what I want within reason. Keep in mind that you can undo a whole weeks' worth of dieting in one day, so be cautious. I find that giving yourself a cheat meal or cheat day helps keep you on the straight and narrow the rest of the time. A girl's still gotta live a little, right?

PS Did y'all catch the premier of the new season of Duck Dynasty? Keeps getting better :) I'm so in love with this show. It's so refreshing to see a family like the Robertson's on television pulling in huge ratings by depicting family values, prayer and amusingly scripted (presumably) swamp shenanigans. I just love this family! We need more things like this on television and less of the drunken antics of the fake baked Jersey Shore. This family makes me happy, happy, happy.

Happy First Day of March

Just wanted to share some of Caroline's 6 month pictures that came out so stinkin cute! I just love them! How could you not smile at these?

Headband made by me

Hope y'all have a Happy Friday and first day of meteorological spring! It's rainy and cold here, but it can't put a damper on my excitement when I flipped my calender over to March :) Also, working on a Fit Friday post complete with diet and workouts for the whole month! Gotta get my tail back in shape!
