Memorial Day Weekend

We had such a wonderful, jam-packed Memorial Day weekend! Friday around noon, Juston got home and we finished loading up the car only to find that the little robin's eggs in the nest in our front door wreath (yes, you read that correctly), were literally hatching before our eyes! Cool to watch, but after that, we hit the road for North Carolina and our Goddaughter's graduation.

I was SO nervous about how this was going to go. My best guess was miserably...

But it actually wasn't that bad. Give a chick some baby dolls and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and she'll be perfectly content. Just kidding, she cried for like three hours. but it was more of a whine and not the wailing I expected, plus she took two naps, so it wasn't awful.

I love this picture :)

We decided to leave at night for the drive home, around 7. We stopped at 8:15 for her bedtime routine, oatmeal, pj's and a lotion up and fresh diaper. I strapped her back in the punishment chairand nursed her till she was asleep which is possible to do buckled in with a Boppy under your tail and some awkward positioning. Thank you Kourtney Kardashian for the brilliant idea! She slept the whole way back except when we had to stop and pay tolls, thanks a lot West Virginia.

Sunday found us fishing at the lake with the cousins.

And Monday was Boat Day and cookout for dinner with family and friends!

Welcome back summer! I've missed you terribly.

Personalized Note Cards

The art of writing a thank you note is quickly going by the wayside in lieu of thank you text messages or Facebook posts. I remember my Mom ALWAYS made had me write thank you notes for everything and I'm glad she did. I'm sure I will have Caroline doing the same thing as soon as she can write. I have a deep and abiding affection for paper goods, especially notecards and stationary. And especially when monogrammed. duh.  I have found quite a few via Etsy for both myself and Caroline. Seriously, who doesn't love getting snail mail, in particular of the handwritten and thoughtful variety. I'm looking for some for Caroline as well so that she has her own to send anytime people bring her sweet little love gifts. If someone thinks enough of you to do something kind, then think enough of them to send a sweet note to say thanks! Here are some of my favorite finds:
For Caroline:
Chevron Personalized Stationary from Gracie and Co.

Pram Notecards from NattyMichelle

Playing Girls Silhouette Notecards from Creations by Kristi

For Mama:

Single Letter Notecards from Petite Paperie

Notecards with envelope by Broken Snare Prints

Memorial Day Weekend Wear

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to summer around here and I couldn't be more ready! Summer is by far my favorite time of the year. I can't wait to get Caroline in the pool and out on the river! Her thighs will just be too cute in a little bathing suit! We are spending the first half of the long weekend traveling to watch our Goddaughter graduate and the last half hopefully boating and cooking out! Here's what we've got picked out to wear:

And as far as the cookout menu, you can't beat fresh fruit, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and smores....or maybe cupcakes...or maybe both.  Everyone have a safe holiday weekend and I hope you get to spend it with your loved ones.

Whatever Wednesday

What I'm Reading:

I mean come on...is there anyone who doesn't love The Quack Pack? Faith, food and family are the foundations on which my life is built and the Robertson family exemplifies that in their hilarious {possibly slightly scripted} antics. Duck Dynasty is by far my favorite show on television and one of the few that I go out of my way to watch. Juston got me Phil's book "Happy, Happy, Happy" on Caroline's behalf for Mother's Day and I love it. If you're not a DD lover, then this book may not be your cup of tea, but I'm loving it so far.

What We Are Wearing:

This little Mud Pie number is one of my favorites that I've gotten Caroline recently. I'm loving that it's finally warm enough to put her in clothes to show off her little baby rolls. This outfit looks so much like a Lilly Pulitzer but way more reasonably priced. I looked on their website and didn't find it there. I got this one from Oopsie Daisies in Mt. Sterling.

These flip flops are super comfy! I just love them. The hat I have is also pink seersucker, but it's no longer available on the website so this is the closest thing.

Where We're Heading:

Headed down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

Baby's. First. Roadtrip. We're heading to North Carolina, y'all! One of my favorite states! I dread the car part of the trip, but I'm SO excited to see my Goddaughter graduate high school! Caroline absolutely despises her carseat and has from day one pretty much {see below for exhibit A}.
We both feel horrible putting her in it. She's okay for about ten minutes, then she starts growling, which leads to fussing, which leads to full on wailing complete with tears streaming, snot rolling, hair sweating hissy fitting. Honestly, if I could just hold her the whole way, I would because she would be fine. We're looking at about a five hour trip. We're planning on leaving around her naptime and hitting about 3 hours, stopping for a spell and then going the last two hours. I pray that she does better than I am thinking she will. *Praying hard. Fingers Crossed*.

Whatever Wednesday

What my Workout Routine has been:

Pure Barre is ahhhhmazing! If you have never tried it, it is such a different workout from anything else on the market right now. There are franchises popping up all over the country, unfortunately none of which are closer than an hour from me. While I do occasionally make the trip to Lexington to take classes (which I would HIGHLY recommend trying if you're close to one...first class is free), I have been doing the dvd's at home 3 nights a week. Actual classes are on such a different level motivation-wise because the instructors I have had are phenomenal, but the dvd's are tough work, too. I would recommend the packages pictured above to get started. You can get the Pershing Square series here and the 16th Street series here. I'll be investing in the Mile High and Flatirons packages next.

On the nights I don't do Pure Barre, I have a standing appointment with Jillian Michaels. Home girl is no joke with these workouts. You can get 30 day shred here and Ripped in 30 here. Again, I highly recommend both. Even though I've always worked in gyms, I've spent a large majority of my workouts outside the gym. This works great when my workout time is 10 pm.
I'm looking to start two-a-days this week with an early afternoon session of Crossfit when Juston gets home from work and maintaining my night-time workouts. A lot of people say not to workout at night, but it's never bothered me as far as sleep. If anything, I sleep better. Any other dvd's workout recommendations are welcome! Looking to expand my collection.

What I'm reading:

Almost finished up with this book and it's pretty good. The female main character sort of annoys me a little bit, but the plot line is really similar to Sweet Home Alabama as far as having a new love in your life but still longing for that first love, the one who got away. It's a good beach read type book. Available here.

What I'm Wearing:

Loving these J Crew Factory Rainy Day ballet flats. They're comfy, match everything and best of all, work for a sunny or rainy day. They do have other really springy colors still on the website.

What I'm Wanting:
Pretty sure I'm going to need this dress for wedding season this summer. Waiting for it to go on sale before I pounce on it, but it's just so cute and different.

What I'm Laughing About:

So I should preface this by saying, I am not a selfie-taker. I do not have an iphone (gasp), I still rock the Blackberry, that's just how I roll (mostly b/c the phone was free from the generous Brother-in-Law), but anyway, I had Caroline and I in these adorable coordinating anchor outfits and wanted a picture oh-so-bad (as I do with everything else in life). Well, Juston had left me his phone, an actual iphone, so that I could record my niece playing her violin solo since he had to work that night. Naturally, I decide I must take our picture...
What an idiot. haha. I was trying so hard to get her to look and smile that I completely neglected to notice the fact that I was making the stupidest face, while Caroline continued to mean-mug, her usual expression. This is a good sneak-peek into the stupid things I do to get a good picture out of this kid. Her look says it all...I'm sure this is just the first of many times I'll get that face. She gets it from her Daddy.
