The first Saturday in May has got to be one of my favorite days of the year! Being born and raised in the great state of Kentucky, I suppose a love of horses, Derby pageantry and the singing of My Old Kentucky Home are inherent, so we love to celebrate Derby Day in our house. This year was Caroline's first ever Derby, so we just had to get all dressed up. Juston even joined in (unprompted, which is a rarity) and dressed up for dinner and the race. We may be kind of lame since we got all dressed up just to have Hot Browns and Juleps in front of our television, but I don't care. Being lame is fun sometimes.
This is seriously one of my favorite hats that I have. My mom got it for me for $10 at a local flea market which I think makes it even more awesome.
And naturally, we had to get Caroline's Horsey for her to hold during the race. This was actually the first stuffed animal I got when I found out I was pregnant and she loves it!
I just happened to have a dress that matched my hat perfectly. Is it just me or should we totally start wearing giant hats and pretty fascinators every day just for fun? I'm in. You just feel way fancy, which is my style. Hope you enjoyed Derby Day as much as we did and won some of your bets. My hubs put money on Revolutionary for me (I love Calvin Borel) and he bet on Vyjack. I knew better than to pick the favorite, but oh well. I really liked Orb, too because his trainer is a Kentucky native and his name is Shug...how cute is that? We're hoping that next year finds us celebrating Oaks and Derby under the Twin Spires instead of watching on tv, but this year I gotta say, I wasn't sad that I wasn't freezing and soaking wet at Churchill.
