Long time no blog post, but we have been livin' it up in the Deep South! We had the best first family vacation last week and Caroline, my notorious car rioter was an absolute doll the entire time! I could not believe it!
She totally had a thing for hotel beds, the pillows specifically. We'd sit her down and she'd waller and roll and flop, then repeat, just squealing and having the best time. I think really she was just so stinking excited by the time we'd get her out of her car seat every night that she would have literally kissed the ground if I'd let her. Our first stop was a night stay in Athens, Alabama just to get a break from the road. The next morning, we headed down to Brudidge where we stayed with some very dear friends and our sweet Goddaughter! After a couple of days there, it was on to Gulf Shores for the next day and a half. We were so close, I just couldn't pass up the beach.
Finally, we were off to our main destination, The Big Easy, New Orleans. Just to be festive, we watched The Princess and the Frog on the three and a half hour drive from the beach.
Juston had been to New Orleans before quite a few years ago for work, (the same reason for this trip, we just tagged along this go around), but this was mine and Caroline's (obviously) first trip and I just adored it. I had in my mind that it would be really similar to Charleston (SC). It was but it wasn't. It was in the sense that the people, food and architecture were all amazing and so incredibly charming, but it had it's own unique flavor that was distinctly different than Charleston. I love them both.
We did a ton of walking, horse drawn carriage ride...
had the sweetest street artist sketch Caroline...
And even snagged a few beads ;)
I had beignets...twice...for breakfast. Don't judge. On the way home, we made a pit stop in Tuscaloosa, AL at the University of Alabama. We are HUGE SEC football fanatics and have a goal to go to a game in every SEC stadium over the next few years, so when in Tuscaloosa, how could we not stop? We've checked off Kentucky and Tennessee and this year we're doing either Georgia or Auburn. Haven't decided yet.
We didn't get to see a ton of the campus, but we saw the football field, so does anything else really matter?
Caroline's reaction to The Bear was pretty priceless and I had to have my picture with Nick's statue. Neither of us are Bama fans, my team is UGA and Juston is diehard Vols (bless his heart, it's been a rough few seasons), but there is just such a history behind Alabama football that you have to respect it and I love the support this town has for their team. It's one of my very favorite things about the South! Our first family vacation could not have been any better! We got to see people we love, visit the beach, eat great food and incorporate a little football in the off-season! What more could you ask for?
