Whatever Wednesday

What I'm Reading:

Lowcountry Summer by Dorthea Benton Frank

This is one of the best books I've read in a few weeks. It is absolutely hilarious and completely relateable I would think for a large majority of people who grew up in the Southeast region. We all have a few nuts that have fallen from the family tree and Dorthea Benton Frank just captures the essence of those people so well. I would highly recommend this read :)

What I'm Loving:

Between teaching my tumbling students a few days a week, teaching classes at a local gym and doing my own workouts, I basically live in workout clothes during the week. Well, I just love the Lululemon Wunder Under crop pants. I've gotten my 2 pairs off of E-Bay for a steal from buyers who got the wrong size or just didn't like the color, etc. I will have to say, I prefer dark colors for my workouts bottoms. Nobody wants crack sweat that's visible...I do have a pink pair, but wear them only for lifting, not cardio.

What I'm loving for Caroline:

I used to carry Burt's Bees when I had my shop and their chapstick has always been the only one I use, but Caroline was gifted tons of Johnson and Johnson baby wash early on, so I just stuck with it. Well, she gets these little dry eczema spots from time to time, so I decided to try a more all natural product and I am loving the Burt's Bees baby line for her. Her hair doesn't get tangled now since I've started using it and I really love the way it smells. I steal the body wash all the time! You can find Burt's Bees pretty much everywhere now. I know Wal-Mart and Kroger carry it here in our town, but their products are great!

What I'm singing:

We LOVE musical theater and Wicked was at the Aronoff recently, so we went and I can't stop singing all the songs! It is hands down one of my favorite musicals we've seen! We've been three times and I just don't get tired of it. Juston, however, has no desire to see it a fourth time. haha.  Regardless, the music is great and I'm so happy we got to see it with my sister and her husband. If you ever get a chance to catch this show, you will not regret it.

What's Cooking:

Juston had one of his good buddies over to grill out the elk he got this season, and since I missed his friends birthday, I wanted to make something for he and his wife to take with them as a late birthday gift. I made chess pie from one of my Southern Living Cookbooks and it was really good. It didn't turn out like I wanted it to, but I messed up and covered the pie with foil trying to keep the crust from browning too quickly, so the inside didn't set as much as I'd have liked, but it still tasted really good. It's the first time I've had that happen to me and it's also the first time I've ever used a store bought pie crust instead of making it from scratch. Not a coincidence...Just kidding, I messed up but I feel better blaming it on the store bought crust.

What I'm looking forward to:

Lots of good stuff is coming up for us in the next couple of weeks! My sister and I are going for pedicures this weekend and I plan on hitting a Pure Barre class later in the day. Mama needs a day off! The sass is getting so real with Caroline, it's ridiculous! And the sassier she gets, the more my patience wears thin, so I need a day. Juston has finally gotten a draft of his next leadership book worked up, so I can finally have some time to myself for a day or rest and relaxation and possibly shopping ;)

We're heading down to Alabama for a long weekend in early April and absolutely can not wait to see some very good friends of ours. We basically consider them family and I think Juston has plans to hunt while we're there, so he's naturally excited! I'm judging a cheerleading competition somewhere in there, which is my element. I've cheered or coached cheerleading and tumbling since age 8 so it's in my blood. I hope to get back into coaching one day when the time is right. Until then, I'll settle for judging competitions and doing choreography. Coaching tumbling is really gratifying for me as well so I'm thankful to still have that connection working with athletes. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Whatever Wednesday

What I'm in love with:

Caroline's 18 month pictures that we just got back! Kacy always does an amazing job getting priceless shots of Caroline and this time was not different. A few of my favorites:

What I'm Watching:
 Southern Charm on Bravo

Has anyone else watched this show? I'm absolutely in love with Charleston, South Carolina and try to visit as often as we can get away to do so, so naturally, since this trainwreck of a show takes place in Charleston, I feel obligated to watch it. It's your run-of-the-mill dramatic, skeevy, trashy Bravo show and I kinda love it.

What I'm Wearing:

I posted about these Kentucky for Kentucky Y'all sweatshirts a few weeks ago and I love them! They're so soft and I can't resist matching my girl. You probably need one if you don't have one already ;)

Workouts:

In addition to my splits with weight lifting, I'm doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD, now 8 days in, and adding running back in since it's finally gotten nice here again. Last week I lost 3 pounds, which was my goal, so now I have about 13 more to go to reach my ultimate goal weight.  I have to set small, manageable goals to keep myself on track instead of bigger, over-arching goals, so at the beginning of each week, I try to come up with a list of 5 fitness related things I'd like to achieve.  I love the satisfaction of checking them off.

What I'm looking forward to:

Juston and I have signed up to run the Color Me Rad Race in Lexington in April. I'm trying to convince my sister to let my nieces run it with us because they really want to and it looks like so much fun! This will be the first 5K Juston and I have done together that isn't an obstacle course, so this should be interesting. I'm a SUPER slow runner, like my best mile time is eleven minutes, and Juston is way tall so I take about two steps to every one of his, but since he hasn't run for awhile, I'm hoping I can keep up. My goal this spring is to get my 5K time under 30 minutes and my best time so far was just under 34 minutes last fall.

Hope everyone is having a great week! We're heading to see Wicked this Friday with my sister and her husband and I am SO excited! It's one of my favorites! It will also be Caroline's very first sleepover at Mamaw and Papa's with her cousins. Say a little prayer for us all! I'm kind of hesitantly excited...my mom may have a different feeling. My dad certainly does haha!

Lemon Blueberry Cake

I love to bake, but I try to only make bigger things, like cakes or pies, when we're having company over to help eat it all. Our Goddaughter brought some of her friends from college in with her yesterday, so it was the perfect opportunity to make a cake I'd been wanting to make since finding the recipe on Pinterest a few weeks ago.

I have a thing for lemon flavored sweets so this cake was perfect! And it tasted every bit as good as it looks. I might have eaten some for brunch this morning, but I plan on giving the majority of what's left away.

You can find the original recipe here

It has a really bright, citrus flavor and the blueberries give it the perfect amount of sweetness. I made it with Spring in mind, but turns out we're getting 4-6 inches of snow again tonight :( This has been the most ridiculous winter I've ever seen in Kentucky. At least it's spring in my kitchen now!
